Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina
The first phase of Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park included a nautical-themed play- ground, pier, pier plaza, tackle shop/snack bar, restrooms, war memorial, visitors center, and a sweet grass basket museum, approximately 200 parking spaces and walkways, and supporting infrastructure. Highlight: The site was limited on space requiring some creative use of space. ADC used the land underneath the Ravenel Bridge for parking and the playground. This left the sunny part of the site for the great lawn and brilliant views. Many of the other passive amenities such as the picnic shelter, benches, tables, and double- sided swings were placed on the pier to open up more space inland.
